What We Need:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Cargo Risk Manager to oversee and manage cargo claims across our operations. This role is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with cargo transportation, ensuring timely and effective resolution of claims, and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations and insurance policies.

What Your Days Would Consist Of:

• Oversee the full lifecycle of cargo claims, including intake, investigation, documentation, resolution, and recovery.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for cargo-related incidents involving shippers, carriers, and insurance providers.
• Analyze claims data to identify patterns and recommend operational improvements to reduce cargo loss and damage.
• Collaborate with carrier compliance and operations teams to ensure proper cargo handling and adherence to contractual obligations.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, and industry regulations related to cargo liability and freight brokerage operations.
• Develop and maintain internal claims management procedures and training materials for staff.
• Negotiate settlements with carriers and insurers while protecting the company’s financial interests.
• Prepare regular reports and dashboards for leadership on claims trends, costs, and risk exposure.

Necessary skills:

• 3–5 years of experience in cargo claims or risk management within a freight brokerage or 3PL environment.
• Strong understanding of carrier liability, cargo insurance, and freight contracts.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage sensitive situations professionally.
• Proficiency in TMS platforms and claims management systems.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience with multimodal freight (truckload, LTL, intermodal, etc.).
